[ES_JOBS_NET] 3-year postdoc position on nitrogen biogeochemistry at Southern Cross University (Australia)

We’re looking for a postdoc to join our Australia-based team working on nitrogen cycling in coastal wetlands. We envision that the person in this position will contribute across a couple of large projects, so there is real potential to ‘make it your own’. Please contact Brad Eyre (contact details below) if you have any questions.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Aquatic Greenhouse Gas Emissions – Nitrogen Cycling and Nitrous Oxide

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to several Australian Research Council (ARC) funded aquatic greenhouse gas projects. This position will focus on nitrogen cycling across a range of systems, including surface-groundwater interactions, tidal wetlands, estuaries, and intermittent streams. The projects will use a combination of continuous in situ gas concentration measurements and stable isotope techniques (N2O isotopomers, 15N labelling) to understand the fate and transport of reactive nitrogen within these dynamic ecosystems.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including groundwater hydrologists, biogeochemical modellers and coastal managers. The broad objective of our work is to make estimates of, and better understand the factors controlling, N2O emissions from aquatic systems under global change. We are also interested in how to better manage these systems to enhance their nitrogen (e.g. denitrification vs anammox) removal capacity while minimising associated greenhouse gas emissions (Nature Based Solutions).

The remuneration package for this position is up to $105,431 - $112,9922 per annum (inclusive of base salary $90,112 - $96,574 per annum and 17% employer's contribution to superannuation). This role is based in Lismore, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Our region offers the best of an Australian lifestyle with spectacular beaches, World Heritage rainforests and a vibrant regional hub.
