If somebody wants to work on the intersection of science and policy, do lots of large scale data analysis and ecological modeling, have their science directly impact California lands, and never have to write a proposal again, then this is the position for them.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is hiring an Ecosystem Carbon Integration Specialist to work on the cutting-edge of large-scale ecosystem carbon quantification science. This position will be the staff lead of two major inventory integration projects: (1) Integrate different quantification methods and datasets used for various land types into a statewide Natural and Working Lands Ecosystem Carbon Inventory. (2) Work with other government agencies and public/private organizations to process, analyze, and interpret datasets separately collected by each agency/organization for integration with remotely sensed data in CARB's geospatial inventory. There will be lots of opportunities to work with colleagues from other government agencies and academia on various carbon quantification issues, developing innovative ways of analyzing large datasets, and evaluating newly emerged spatial analytical tools and the latest research for inventory applications. We are looking for someone with an educational background in landscape ecology, earth system science, climate science, forestry, or related fields; experience of independently developing advanced scientific methodologies for carbon quantification; advanced GIS skills; experience working with satellite-based and remotely sensed data; and programming skills in Python, R, etc.
