If you reading these "tips" you are probably thinking of applying for one of our positions
in our lab at the ISMAR/CNR in Lerici (SP), Italy. Good! Our lab is located in a fantastic
place, you can have a look at it at:
http://www.ismar.cnr.it/organization/geographic-units/ismar-la-spezia
Here are some tips to guide you through the application processes:
1) READ THE CALL:
try to read carefully the call but do not get too scared about the bureaucratic language
2) VIDEOCONF INTERVIEW:
CNR introduced the possibility of having the interview via
video-conferencing systems.
3) RECOGNITION of ACADEMIC TITLES TAKEN ABROAD:
You do NOT need any formal recognition by MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education)
for your titles. The equivalence of those titles obtained abroad, who
have not already been recognized in Italy with the formal procedure,
will be evaluated, only for the present selection procedure, by the Examining Committee.
This basically means that there will be a University Professor in the Examining Committee
which will evaluate your academic titles and declare them equivalent to the ones needed
only for the purpose of this application. This saves time and avoids recognitions by MIUR.
Of course you need to provide copies of your original titles and their English
translations to make the equivalence possible.
4) ANNEX A (application form):
For the application, you need to fill a document similar to Annex A, (call announcement code is
ISMAR-10-2021-SP), dated and signed it. You may scan it and send it with the other documents
via email. I said "similar" because for example if you do not have a PhD you do not need to
fill that field, etc... But please stick to Annex A for as much as you can.
5) Curriculum Vitae and ANNEX B (self-certification):
For the application it is important that you turn in a "self-certified CV".
To create a self-certified CV, I would proceed as follows:
5a) Start from your current CV in the present form, with photo, header, etc... As you like
but I'd suggest you to put everything, I mean everything, as much as you can show.
CV should also contain a list of all your scientific works (papers, book chapters, technical
reports, etc...). Also make sure that you CV is edited in an analytical way and all items
in the CV are correctly identified with single reference elements (example: date, protocol,
title of the publication, etc...). If your current CV already includes everything and you feel
ok with it, you just need to follow the easy modifications below to have a self-certified CV;
5b) make sure to date and sign ALL THE PAGES of the CV document
5c) scan the dated and signed self-certified CV and send it with the other documents.
5d) Fill Annex B, scan the signed version and send it with the other documents.
5e) make sure to send a PDF copy of a valid identification document (generally passport in most
cases) with the other documents, otherwise the self-certification is not valid.
6) ANNEX C (Authorization to process your data for the selection procedure):
For the application, you need to fill Annex C with your personal data (name, date and
place of birth, place of redidence and address) dated and signed it.
You may scan it and send it with the other documents via email.
Please note that Annexes A, B and C are found at the end of the call document:
7) DOCUMENTS TO BE SENT:
Summarizing, you want to make sure to send pdf copies of
7a) application form similar to Annex A (scanned version as it should be dated and signed at
the end)
7b) self-certified CV and Annex B as explained in point 5 above (scanned version as it
should be dated and signed ON EACH PAGE), please send copies of all scientific works
7c) Annex C (scanned version as it should be dated and signed)
7d) a copy of your valid passport, the same ID that you will use to identify yourself at the web interview
7e) both English and original copies of your academic titles (PhD, Master Degrees, etc...)
7f) I'd suggest to not exceed 10MB with the attachments and to send multiple emails, just put in
the email object "YourSurname, Application for ISMAR-10-2021-SP, part I of xx", and the
same for the follwing emails
You are ready to go! Best of luck or "in bocca al lupo"!
