Lewis & Clark College, a private liberal arts college with 2,000
undergraduates, invites applications for an adjunct professor in the
Department of Environmental Studies for the Fall 2021 semester. The
successful candidate will deliver an introductory Climate Science course
(GEOL 170) that consists of three weekly one-hour lectures and one
laboratory section (see schedule and course description below). Ph.D. or
ABD in Atmospheric, Ocean, Climate Science or a related field required at
the time of appointment. Excellent classroom teaching and laboratory
instruction at an undergraduate institution is essential.

Official course description: Introduction to the earth's climate from a
physical, earth-systems perspective. Prehistoric and historic fluctuations
in the earth's climate, the current climate system, and projections for
future climate and climate impacts. Topics will include the radiative
balance of the earth's atmosphere, the greenhouse effect, albedo, aerosols,
clouds, climate feedbacks, global and regional atmospheric circulation,
ocean circulation, climate variability such as El Nino, the carbon cycle,
paleoclimate proxy records, ocean acidification, and climate models. We
will examine some responses to climate change, including geoengineering,
adaptation, and mitigation. Weekly laboratory exercises with climate data
observations and models (computer-based), and physical mechanisms (lab- and
field-based).

Class dates: Aug 30 - Dec 08.

Lectures MWF 11:30-12:30am.

Lab Tues 12:30pm-3:30pm.

  No class on Oct 8 (fall break) and Nov 26 (Thanksgiving break)
