Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The postdoc will engage in scientific research as well as facilitating field opportunities for students and outreach activities as part of an NSF CAREER project. The scientific work includes 1) developing an iron budget for a small lake, incorporating a groundwater source ascertained through a collaboration with hydrogeologists, and the sedimentary sinks determined through Pb-dating and geochemistry of sediment cores; and 2) developing methane budgets for one or more small lakes through measurement of methane emissions, methane production rates, quantification of methane, DIC and carbon isotopic composition in water column and sediment/porewaters samples. The education and outreach work, performed in close collaboration with the PI, includes 1) helping to facilitate logistics of research and teaching fieldwork; 2) occasional instruction of undergraduate and/or graduate students in the field; 3) occasional training of students on laboratory or computational analytical techniques; and 4) occasional participation in public outreach activities related to the project.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
PhD

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Geological or Environmental Sciences or related discipline; Valid U.S. drivers license; Experience coordinating limnological fieldwork; Expertise in any or all of the following disciplines: geochemistry, biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, hydrogeology, and/or ecosystem ecology; Experience in geochemical analysis (ion chromatography, ICP-OES or ICP-MS) as well as the operation and maintenance of field sensors; Experience in biogeochemical modeling; Proficient in R or similar language for data analysis; Experience in amplicon sequencing and/or (meta)genomic analysis of environmental sample; Good written and oral communication skills; Experience supervising, teaching or mentoring undergraduate students; willing to engage in a collaborative research group.
