Dear Colleagues,
The Science Support Office of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is seeking an independent contractor with marine seismic expertise for 2-3 months of work/year. The specific expertise needed is familiarity with the management and use of single channel and multichannel seismic reflection data (including 3-D), related velocity data and models, and supporting processing documentation. The person must be able to begin by mid-April 2021 and should have the capacity to work through the end of the current scientific ocean drilling program in late 2023.
Tasks include: 1) basic quality assessment and quality control of seismic data and associated data files like bathymetry grids submitted in support of scientific ocean drilling proposals; 2) working with SSO staff to improve the recommended SEGY header format; 3) answering questions from proponents related to seismic data requirements; 4) advising developers of the IODP Site Survey Data Bank (ssdb.iodp.org) on requirements and norms around seismic data and its use; 5) testing new SSDB features from a scientist's perspective; and 6) developing and/or reviewing guidance around seismic and related data for SSDB users.
The data quality control must be done within two 4-6 week periods around data deadlines (May and November), and it requires ~10-30 hours/week time commitment during those periods. Questions from proponents or SSDB staff would need responses in a timely way. The other work would be intermittent through the year, and there would be some scheduling flexibility.
If interested, send a cover letter, with your hourly rate, and a current CV to cmeth at ucsd.edu.
Thank you,
Charna
