We have an opening for a fully-funded 4-year Ph.D. studentship at the Department of Meteorology<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.misu.su.se%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cmet-jobs%40lists.reading.ac.uk%7C24682fd3443f4a193e3708d8df305eb0%7C4ffa3bc4ecfc48c09080f5e43ff90e5f%7C0%7C0%7C637504746127569368%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=NWOog5jiBa3VYtcKrlICXRAfM3ihxu%2BtfFHdrBfJlEs%3D&reserved=0>, Stockholm University, Sweden.

The project will focus on understanding the mechanisms controlling the development of extreme storms in the midlatitudes, with particular focus on the North Atlantic and Europe. You will apply a storm-tracking algorithm to observational data and climate model outputs to investigate these mechanisms in the present climate, and assess how they affect the frequency and intensity of storms in simulated warmer climates.

This work will be conducted in the broader context of the EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Initial Training Network European weather extremes: DrIvers, Predictability and Impacts (EDIPI). The network brings together 15 partners across Europe, see here https://edipi-itn.eu<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fedipi-itn.eu%2F&data=04%7C01%7Cmet-jobs%40lists.reading.ac.uk%7C24682fd3443f4a193e3708d8df305eb0%7C4ffa3bc4ecfc48c09080f5e43ff90e5f%7C0%7C0%7C637504746127574362%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=UgWPP%2BHj3yEGspxUMMv45EXXtHYdN%2B7%2BZvi%2FbvgxX3Y%3D&reserved=0> for details. You will be part of a cohort of early-career researchers studying different aspects of climate extremes in Europe, from atmospheric dynamics to public health and agricultural impacts, and will have access to a rich programme of training activities and research exchanges.
