USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory is recruiting for a Geophysicist position at the GS-11/12 level. The incumbent’s duties will include:
* Independently identifying, evaluating, and determining equipment needs for maintenance and expansion of the existing Rainier Lahar Detection System Network.
* Plans, organizes, and monitors station installations, maintenance, and network performance and responds to network outages. Monitors real-time data acquisition and ensures proper station documentation.
* Participates in data processing and analysis, including compiling data from multiple instruments and instrument types, checking data for anomalous values and errors, and preparing derived data products.
* Oversees the day-to-day operations of the real-time Mount Rainier Lahar Detection (MRLD) system. The detection system includes remote, autonomously-powered monitoring stations with one or more geophysical sensors, including seismometers, infrasound sensors, deformation monitoring equipment (GPS), tripwires and/or cameras.
* Monitors operational status of the acquisition of continuously recording telemetered seismic and deformation monitoring networks on Cascade volcanoes, ensuring uninterrupted flow of data.
This position is open to U.S. Citizens and Federal employees who meet the definition of a ‘surplus’ or ‘displaced’ employee.
