*Social Sciences Research Analyst*
*Who We Are:*
The Institute for Ecological Civilization (EcoCiv) is a 501(c)3 non-profit
that promotes civilizational change for the long-term wellbeing of people
and the planet. We work internationally to support systemic approaches to
long-term sustainability by developing collaborations among government,
business, and religious leaders and among scholars, activists, and policy
makers. We build effective partnerships, conduct research, and design
solutions across social sectors through consultations, think-tank
gatherings, and policy engagement.
*Position description:*
EcoCiv seeks a *Social Sciences Research Analyst* with high-level research
and critical thinking skills to support the project lead in conducting a
landscape survey and analysis of conditions for the thriving of human
societies and natural ecosystems in the Anthropocene.
This project focuses on concepts, technologies, organizations, and funders
across multiple sectors of human society. The Research Analyst will
interface with a wide range of experts to gather information, conduct
interviews, and produce written reports that summarize the current
landscape across multiple sectors and disciplines.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, remote staff position for 40 hours per
week with benefits. The Research Analyst will work closely with the Project
Manager responsible for carrying out the project on human and ecosystem
thriving, as well as with the President and other staff. EcoCiv is a highly
collaborative organization, and the Research Analyst will also be involved
in offering research support for other projects in ways most appropriate to
their expertise and experience. This grant-funded research project is
confirmed through 2021, with likely renewal through 2022 and a possible
follow-up project through 2025. Funding from other clients and foundations
could also provide other opportunities, depending on the Analyst’s training
and abilities.
*Responsibilities include: *
● Coordinating and conducting interviews and group meetings with
leading experts across various sectors;
● Conducting and analyzing the results of a Delphi methodology study
● Research existing scholarly and public documents related to the
sectors surveyed in the project
● Write and edit polished white papers on these sectors for project
partners and funders;
● Work as a team member and participate in team calls on a regular
basis via Zoom.
*Required experience and aptitudes:*
● BA/BS in sustainability, environmental studies, or the social
sciences, with knowledge of the diverse aspects of cultural evolution.
● Demonstrated research experience at a highly conceptual level, with
sufficient empirical and technological detail.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated
experience in:
○ Writing and editing professional reports or white papers,
○ Conducting expert interviews domestically and/or internationally;
● Strong and demonstrated computer/technology skills (GSuite
applications, Asana, Microsoft Office, Zoom);
● Flexible hours (due to time zones and the global reach of our
organization);
● Strong time management and self-motivation skills; and
● Able to work remotely.
*Desired experience and aptitudes:*
● Masters (or PhD) degree in sustainability, environmental studies, or
relevant social sciences
● Experience conducting Delphi methodology studies
● Experience using and building databases
