Job Description
 
The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) at The Penn State University invites applications for an immediate opening for a Research Technologist to support analytical activities in the Organics Laboratory facility. The Organics Laboratory is a shared core facility that is open to support all Penn State faculty, students, and external clients. The laboratory provides organics analysis of various matrices including gas, water, soil/sediment, biologic, synthetic and geologic materials and supports multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research across hydrology, biogeochemistry, biology, archeology, food and plant science, materials science, oil and gas.

The Organics Facility includes: (1) an instrumentation laboratory equipped with new state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometers including a UHPLC/Q-Exactive Orbitrap MS  equipped with ESI, APCI and DART ionization source, a Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS equipped with a Pyroprobe, and a single Quadrupole GC/MS, and (2) a sample preparation laboratory equipped with multiple equipment to process various sample matrices.
 
The successful candidate will work with the Organics laboratory manager to assist and support preparation and analysis of samples, data acquisition, interpretation, and reporting.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, preferably in Chemistry, and a minimum of one year of hands-on experience in an academic and/or commercial laboratory working with LC/MS and/or GC/MS 
instrumentation. 

The successful candidate must be detail oriented, and possess excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills.
