Dear Colleagues,
The Remote Sensing of Environmental Change Lab<http://www.sfu.ca/people/binglu.html> (http://www.sfu.ca/people/binglu.html) in the Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University (British Columbia, Canada) is recruiting one Postdoctoral Researcher and one Graduate Student (PhD or MSc) to work on remote sensing for precision agriculture on a project funded by industry partners.
Research topics include: 1) Mapping soil moisture and carbon content using drone-based images (e.g., hyperspectral, LiDAR, and thermal) and Internet of Things; 2) Evaluating crop growth status using drone and satellite images, weather information, and agricultural machinery data; and 3) Utilizing remote sensing products for supporting farming practices. The position will be based at the SFU Burnaby Campus. Multiple field sites are in southern British Columbia and southern Saskatchewan. Working closely with industry partners on field data collection and analysis is anticipated.
The research team is seeking one Postdoctoral Researcher and one Graduate Student with research experience and skills in remote sensing and other relevant disciplines, including agriculture, ecology, or soil science. Applicants with expertise in multiple disciplines are highly encouraged to apply. The postdoctoral position is for one year (January to December 2022), and an extension is possible depending on funding availability and performance. The anticipated start date for graduate student is January 2022. The length of graduate program is typically 2 years for MSc and 4 years for PhD. More information on university admission requirements for graduate students (including GPA and proof of English proficiency) and formal application procedures can be found here https://www.sfu.ca/geography/prospective-students/prospective-graduate.html.
Interested applicants should contact Dr. Bing Lu (b_lu at sfu.ca<mailto:b_lu at sfu.ca>) as soon as possible and send a single PDF document with 1) a 1~2-page cover letter outlining your interests and learning / research experience, especially in remote sensing, agriculture, ecology, and soil science; 2) a full and updated CV; 3) all post-secondary transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable); and 4) contact information of three academic or professional referees. Please use “Applicant for precision agriculture” as the subject of your email.
