Project Scientist
Project Vesta is on a mission to remove billions of tons of anthropogenic
atmospheric carbon dioxide through Coastal Enhanced Weathering (CEW). CEW
is a nature-based carbon dioxide removal method that accelerates the
weathering rate of a naturally occurring magnesium silicate, olivine, using
coastal wave energy. To stop (and ultimately reverse) global warming, both
emissions reductions and carbon removal will be necessary. We believe that
working with communities to enable CEW worldwide is paramount to achieving
this goal in order to build a more inclusive and sustainable future.
BACKGROUND
Project Vesta <http://www.projectvesta.org> is an organization made up of a
team of scientists, operators, and collaborators working together to remove
gigatons of CO2 from the atmosphere through accelerating the weathering
rate of the mineral olivine. To safely and effectively advance CEW, Project
Vesta is conducting research in a wide range of disciplines including
ecology, geochemistry, biology, coastal engineering, and social science.
Our team includes both internal staff scientists as well as collaborators
from leading universities and institutions around the world. Investigating
the different drivers of olivine dissolution in coastal environments
involves studying numerous oceanographic processes at multiple scales. We
are also developing social licensing frameworks along with researching
public perceptions of CEW. Taken together, our aim is to holistically
advance the safe and effective deployment of olivine in coastal areas
through working with local communities, governments, and scientists.
We are seeking to hire a Project Scientist to assist with ongoing and
upcoming research activities. We are looking for a dynamic individual with
a background in one or more STEM fields related to our overall research
program (chemistry, geology, oceanography, biology, physics, technology,
civil and coastal engineering, resource management, or a related field).
This position will support the Scientific Directors of Project Vesta and
