Project Scientist
Project Vesta is on a mission to remove billions of tons of excess
atmospheric carbon dioxide through Coastal Enhanced Weathering (CEW). CEW
is a nature-based carbon dioxide removal method that accelerates the
weathering rate of a naturally occurring magnesium silicate, olivine, using
coastal wave energy. To stop (and ultimately reverse) global warming, both
carbon dioxide emission reductions and removal will be necessary. We
believe that working with coastal communities to enable CEW worldwide is
paramount to building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
BACKGROUND
Project Vesta <http://www.projectvesta.org> is a global organization made
up of scientists and entrepreneurs working together to remove gigatons of CO
2 from the atmosphere by accelerating the weathering rate of the mineral
olivine. To safely and effectively advance CEW, Project Vesta is engaged in
diverse scientific research with collaborators from both domestic and
international universities and institutions. Investigating the drivers of
olivine dissolution in coastal environments involves studying numerous
oceanographic processes at multiple scales. We are also developing social
licensing frameworks along with researching public perceptions of CEW.
Taken together, our aim is to holistically advance the safe and effective
deployment of olivine sand in coastal areas by working with local
communities, governments, and scientists.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with a background in science
