Dear Colleagues:
The Center for Global Change Science (CGCS) at MIT is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on
using machine leaning methods and observations to improve the parameterizations of land surface methane
biogeochemistry model and the understanding of key processes and controls underlying CH4 emissions.
Candidates must have a PhD degree in atmospheric sciences, biogeochemistry, or a closely related field.
The successful candidate will conduct modeling experiments with the state-of-the-art methane biogeochemistry
model (i.e. CESM2 community land model) and use machine learning to emulate model-simulated methane emissions
for model sensitivity analysis and parameter calibration. Experience in land surface modeling, machine learning,
geospatial data analysis, and programming skills (python, Fortran, etc.) is highly desirable. Applicants should have
excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and publish the research
in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will have an opportunity to collaborate with multi-disciplinary researches
in the center and across the institute.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with relevant experience. Interested candidates should submit an application
including: (1) a statement describing qualifications, (2) curriculum vitae, and (3) names and contact information for three references.
For additional information, please contact Dr. Xiang Gao at xgao304 at mit.edu<mailto:xgao304 at mit.edu>. This is a one-year appointment with the option to
renew based on performance and availability of funding. The appointment will start as soon as possible. The position will remain
open until filled.
Thanks and best regards,
Xiang Gao, Ph.D.
