The SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) is seeking a Research Associate IV (Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist) to serve on a recently funded grant for women’s economic empowerment through agricultural finance activity. The NASA/SERVIR Science Coordination Office will provide scientific and technical backstopping to the Eastern and Southern Africa hub and will facilitate global knowledge exchange throughout the SERVIR network in the Americas, Africa, and Asia, sharing advances and lessons in integrating gender and Earth observations into the risk financing sector.

SERVIR is a joint development initiative of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and works in partnership with leading regional organizations worldwide to help developing countries use the information provided by Earth-observing satellites and geospatial technologies for managing climate risks and land use. SERVIR’s goal is to empower decision-makers with tools, products, and services to act locally on climate-sensitive issues such as disasters, agriculture, water, and ecosystems, and land use.

The SERVIR SCO in Huntsville offers a flexible and dynamic work environment, with an in-house team of over 30 professionals and numerous opportunities for growth and professional development. Periodic international and domestic travel is a requirement of the position.

Minimum Requirements:	
- Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Environmental Science or a similar field
- 45 - 51 months of full-time verifiable work experience (to include 45 months of experience working on GESI issues within community or international development and environmental challenges)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Leadership experience and self-initiative
- Willingness to work closely with others in diverse team environments
- Ability to support GESI integration in international settings, and to travel to international locations for training and collaborative meetings.
- Literacy and some expertise in agriculture, economics, Earth science, and/or geospatial applications
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity pertinent to diverse SERVIR regions and supporting member countries’ sustainable development objectives

Desired Qualifications:	
- Master’s in Gender Studies, Sociology, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Environmental Science, or similar is preferred
- Experience working with NASA and/ or other Federal agencies is desired
- Peer-reviewed publication record is preferred
- Experience supporting complex projects with multiple institutions is desired
- Experience in Earth science and geospatial applications, with demonstrated expertise in a related subdomain, is preferred
