Postdoctoral Research Associate(s) – Climate Change and Infectious Diseases
The High Meadows Environmental Institute, through a collaboration with the Departments of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Geosciences, invite applications for a post-doctoral position or more senior position to work with Professors Jessica Metcalf, Bryan Grenfell and Gabriel Vecchi. The successful candidate will work on epidemiological dynamics, and its environmental and demographic drivers, employing a mixture of theory and statistical analysis of data, for a range of different infections. The emphasis will be on understanding the seasonal cycle and year-to-year fluctuations of infectious diseases, links to seasonal human movement, climate, and land use change; alongside vaccination policy and pathogen evolution. Successful candidates will join a vibrant and productive program at the intersection of climate and infectious disease at Princeton, embedded in leading departments in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Climate Science; and multiple appointments across departments will be possible depending on the candidate expertise.
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in quantitative ecology, population biology, applied mathematics, physics, engineering, statistics, climate science, or an equivalent area. Additional experience in infectious disease modeling, and particularly handling large datasets is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of publication; have strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills; and be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. The positions start on or about September 2021 or sooner. Appointments are for a one year period, with expected renewal for additional years based upon satisfactory performance. These positions are subject to the University's background check policy.
Applicants must apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/20041 and submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests, and names and contact information for three references. Applicants from groups historically underrepresented in environmental sciences are encouraged to apply.
Application review will begin June 1, 2021 and continue on a rolling basis until position is filled.
Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
