The Geospatial Technology and Applications Center (GTAC), a national service center for the Forest Service, is pleased to announce the opportunity to respond to an outreach in the Data Development and Cartography (DDC) Program.  This notification is circulated to inform prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity and to determine interest in the position.  Responses to this outreach will inform approach for a future vacancy announcement and may be used for a lateral detail not to exceed 1 year, Potential for permanent reassignment may also be considered.  Description of the duties, point of contact, and an outreach reply form for the position are provided.
GTAC is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and reports to Washington Engineering, Technology and Geospatial Services Staff.  GTAC employs a uniquely skilled and equipped staff dedicated to providing a variety of geospatial services, from data integration, analysis, and tools development, web-enabled workflows and mapping, data production and dissemination, remote sensing, geospatial project support, cartographic publishing, and technical assistance and training.
Duty Location:  Salt Lake City, Utah.

About the Position
Located in the Data Development and Cartography (DDC) Program, this position is responsible for the oversite of a wide array of geospatial services including data development, base mapping, thematic mapping, and data sharing.  This position is supervisory.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  *   Compiling natural resource, topographic and cartographic data for the creation of map products and presentation materials.
  *   Analysing geospatial data to support natural resource management decision making.
  *   Applying geographic and cartographic principles to the resolution of multi-disciplinary issues in the geospatial database construction and map compilation.
  *   Responsibility for the production of multi-scale series map products, project management and data management in enterprise solutions.
  *   Operates complex computer systems and software packages and develops procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics for the many varied Forest resource programs, planning documents, and a variety of other requirements.
  *   Utilize geographic and cartographic principles to resolve multi-disciplinary issues in geospatial database construction and map compilation.
  *   Planning the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigning work to employees, and establishing production and quality standards for the unit's work.
  *   Serving as a Contracting Officer's Representative on professional services contracts for digitizing and cartographic map production.
  *   Serving as a technical point of contact and maintains liaisons with other program areas, Region and Forest geospatial and GIS staff, and other agencies.
This position is supervisory, and will require good communication, coordination, collaboration, supervision, leadership and organizational skills.
