Duties

Summary

This position is located in Billings or Missoula, MT. Information about

We expect to fill one vacancy/vacancies at this time; however, additional

Responsibilities

*	Serve as a consultant and advisor regarding geospatial and
ecological modeling and analysis that supports a range of natural resources
planning and science activities for the Montana/ Dakotas State Office.
*	Initiate, formulate, plan, and execute a variety of geospatial
assessments and projects that analyze and model natural and human-induced
processes and biological and physical components of ecosystems at a variety
of temporal and spatial scales.
*	Analyze and evaluate current geospatial practices and future needs
at the state and/or regional level and recommend appropriate resource
management strategies to address those needs.
*	Support the integration of broad, regional, and/or landscape scale
assessments and data into everyday BLM land management decision making.
*	Represent the Bureau at management and professional conferences and
other events for the purpose of exchanging information, presenting technical
and policy information, and advancing advocacy for public lands stewardship.
*	Ensure that geospatial program activities are consistent with
national policies and priorities, as well as any applicable laws or
regulations.

Qualifications

In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1)
full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level.
Specialized experience is defined as: Experience that equipped the applicant

of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must
have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal
line of progression for the occupation in the organization as indicated by

area (e.g. state or region); Promote and implement an integrated training

at a variety of temporal and spatial scales; Use quantitative geospatial
analysis techniques to predict effects of planned or natural changes in
ecological systems; Analyze and evaluate current geospatial practices and
future needs at the state and/or regional level and recommend appropriate
resource management strategies to address those needs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work
done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and
other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious;
spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical
competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and
experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive
credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing
date of the announcement.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the
Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a
current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, requiring long periods of
sitting in one position, intense concentration, and working for several
hours at a time. Occasionally there may be some physical exertion such as

riding in an automobile; etc.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and
climate controlled office. Occasional travel may be -required. The incumbent

Education

0150 Series: Degree in geography; or related physical or social science such
as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology,
political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or
planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related
fields.or Combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a
major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester
hours in geography or related fields, geology, meteorology, economics,
statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history,
cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning, plus appropriate
experience or additional education.

0401 Series: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource
management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or A combination of education and experience in courses equivalent to a
major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management,
chemistry, or related disciplines, plus appropriate experience or additional
education.

0408 Series: Degree in biology, or a related field of science underlying
ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and
applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9
semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and
mathematical sciences.
