Where You Will Work:

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and various UCAR Community Programs (UCP) - all in service of advancing knowledge, providing community-based resources, and building human capacity in atmospheric and related sciences.

What You Will Do:

To help create and train the next generation of leading researchers needed for climate studies (see https://www.climate.noaa.gov/Who-We-Are/About-CPO). The program focuses on observing, understanding, modeling and predicting the climate variability and change on seasonal and longer time scales. This includes the documentation and analysis of past, current, or possible future climate variability and change and the study of the underlying physical, chemical, and biological processes.  NOAA's Climate Program Office sponsors the program.

Responsibilities:
·         Conducts independent or collaborative research under a proposed plan related to the goals of the program.
·         Publishes and presents results of the research at seminars and conferences.
·         Pursues outside activities that advance professional growth, which may include contributing to educational programs, serving on committees, and attending workshops.

What You Need:

Education and Years of Experience:
·         Ph.D. degree related to climate change research; with
·         Preference given to those who are seeking their first fellowship.
·         Applicants have held a Ph.D. for no more than three years from the application deadline of January 8, 2021.
·         Awardees must change institutions in the absence of compelling circumstances.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
·         Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal supervision.
·         Skill in oral and written communication.

4) Ph.D. dissertation abstract, including title.

5) Titled project description.

Note: Description must be titled and not exceed five pages including figures and appendices (minimum 12 pt. type size).

a) References are NOT included in this 5-page limit.

b) Proposals must describe an actual research project.

c) Proposals must be original, not sourced from a previously submitted proposal to a different funding agency.

d) Address the broader impact of your research to the community at large.

6) Statement of relevance and future interactions with NOAA (one-page limit).
·         Your Statement of relevance should enhance and complement the research goals outlined at the NOAA<https://www.performance.noaa.gov/goals/> website, and
·         Future interactions with NOAA could include using NOAA data, establishing new collaborations with a NOAA scientist, giving a talk on your work and research outcomes at a NOAA Laboratory or Program Office, etc...

7) Host Institution Materials - Host materials should be provided to applicant by 8 January and submitted as part of the postdoctoral fellowship application. (Please see How Hosting Institutions Apply<https://cpaess.ucar.edu/cgc/how-hosting-institutions-apply> for more information)
·         Letter of Intent - in the case of specific laboratory needs, a letter should accompany the application from the specific institution willing to provide the resources.
·         Curriculum vitae
·         Mentoring Plan
·         List of current and pending research support
