The Department of Geosciences at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a candidate for a Research Technologist (Lab Manager) for the Carbonate Clumped Isotope Laboratory. The successful candidate will be under the general supervision of the lab PI and will work in conjunction with faculty, staff, students, and visitors towards the lab’s research mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

·         Developing, designing and conducting research projects or experiments in line with the lab’s research plan; reviewing progress and evaluating results;
·         Managing projects of small or moderate size and scope; contributing to determining feasibility of goals and objectives; assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of assigned projects;
·         Participating in formulating research methods and suggesting solutions for improving data quality; identifying problems and related technical issues, and identifying long-term solutions;
·         Coordinating data collection, and data quality assurance/control; conducting data analysis, interpreting and implementing research methodology based on outcomes of analyses;
·         Responsible for operation and/or oversight of the Carbonate Clumped Isotope Lab (Thermo 253Plus and Protium IBEX);
·         Act as liaison with other departments, divisions or organizations to answer questions or provide advice on research projects/experiments;
·         Train users in equipment operation and research techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations and outcomes;
·         Author/co-author on papers, proposals, presentations and reports.

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus 7 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding. This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.  We seek to fill this position as soon as possible, but start date is negotiable.
