*         Job Description

The position of rank II, Assistant Research Scientist, Hydrologist will be primarily responsible for analyzing remote sensing and climate data sets for estimating evapotranspiration, vegetation status, and trends in agriculture and groundwater dependent ecosystems across the southwestern U.S. The position requires strong background in remote sensing, statistical methods, environmental modeling, and excellent data management and computer programming skills. The ability to engage with federal, state, and local management agencies and other stakeholders to communicate research results and identify new collaborative research needs is also preferred. Responsibilities include working with numerous DRI researchers to support projects at the interface of climate, hydrology, ecology, agriculture, and remote sensing.

Required Qualifications

*         U.S Citizenship - due to funding specifications of the position;

*         Master of Science degree with a focus on hydrology from an accredited institution, with a strong interdisciplinary background across fields remote sensing, agriculture, ecology, or climatology;

*         Experience using satellite remote sensing and spatial climate data together to solve problems;

*         Strong evidence of data management and analysis of large spatiotemporal datasets;

*         Expertise in one or more computer programming languages (e.g. Python, R, JavaScript);

*         Advanced skills using ArcGIS, QGIS, and the Google Earth Engine cloud computing platform;

*         Experience with application of technical skills in agriculture and/or groundwater dependent ecosystem problems in the western U.S.;

*         Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

*         Ability to work independently to fulfill project goals and meet project deadlines;

*         Ability to effectively analyze and report research findings to sponsors, at conferences, and during professional meetings;

*         Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of management partners and stakeholders, and to co-develop applied research initiatives;

*         Ability to coordinate collaborative research and work collegially in a group setting.
