PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY: Develop novel approaches to integrate multi-source ground observation and remote sensing data, process-based and machine learning models, and high performance computation framework, to better monitor weather conditions, crop growth, soil health, carbon credit, and water use from regional to global scales at high spatial and temporal resolutions in real time.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*        Develop efficient pipelines to process petabyte-level atmosphere and land remote sensing data from multi-satellite and airborne platforms.
*        Develop novel sensor networks to collect ground truth data of agro-ecosystems at large scales.
*        Develop sophisticated models and algorithms to integrate multi-source data for agro-ecosystem monitoring at regional and global scales.
*        Publish scientific research papers on top journals.
*        Write proposals for long-term and continuous support.
*        Mentor postdocs, PhD students, technicians and interns for different research tasks.



QUALIFICATIONS:



Education:  Required: PhD degree in Geosciences, Environmental Science, or Remote Sensing



Experience:  Required: More than 5 years research experience after the acquisition of the PhD; experience in global long-term ecosystem remote sensing; experience in regional scale high resolution ecosystem remote sensing; experience in geostationary satellite remote sensing; experience in atmosphere and canopy radiative transfer modeling; experience in ecosystem processes modeling; experience in IoT sensor development; experience in agriculture applications.  Preferred: H-index > 10 being a research project PI.



Training, Licenses or Certifications:  Required: US driver's license.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Required: Skillful in big data (e.g., petabyte) processing; skillful in process-based modeling; skillful in high-performance computation; skillful in agricultural field work.  Preferred: Deep understanding on remote sensing of weather conditions, crop growth, soil health, carbon credit, and water use.



Environmental Demands:  Both lab and field work will be conducted in this position. Field work may involve working in inclement weather including hot, humid conditions, biting insects, carrying up to 30 pounds of equipment for short distances, and cold weather.



SALARY:  Commensurate with experience and qualifications



APPOINTMENT STATUS: Full-time academic professional, grant-supported appointment renewable annually pending continued funding and satisfactory progress within the position. Qualified individuals will be eligible to receive vacation, sick, and personal leave; retirement through the State Universities Retirement System; and group health, dental, vision and life insurance.
