Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a STEM related field. At least two (2) years of full time laboratory operational experience or advanced research that includes work in a scientific or engineering research laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Geosciences, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science etc...).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher)in a STEM related field. Experience in NMR spectroscopy. Experience in synchrotron and neutron characterization, including but not limited to x-ray diffraction, pair distribution function, small-angle scattering, x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAMES/EXAFS), transmission x-ray microscopy, single crystal techniques, and tomography. Experience in maintenance and operation of x-ray equipment. Experience using CAD 3D design software, e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, 123D Design or other, similar software. Experience with programming and scripting in a variety of environments, including Windows, Unix/Linux, and/or OSX operating system administration. Experience in managing, designing, fabricating and/or carrying out experiments, including in situ experiments at large user facilities or on other sophisticated instrumentation. Experience in 3D printing and/or machining of parts using shop equipment (e.g. lathes, etc.).
Brief Description of Duties:
Working under general supervision, carry out assignments that entail specialized training and experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, and specialized data collection and interpretation. Requires a high level of discretion, judgment, collaboration and initiative to accomplish goals. May include supervisory responsibilities.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
* Develop, monitor, coordinate and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the program. This includes, but is not limited to:
* Test, diagnose and repair devices; coordinate the scheduling of equipment maintenance and repair; inspect GENESIS spaces to ensure safety; supervise the work of contractors. This includes: (i) coordinate equipment problems with manufacturers (ii) develop protocols for training on equipment (iii) coordinate the complete technical requirements for utility of the equipment from planning to operation, including the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Install and configure computer hardware, software, networks and systems; maintain records of software licenses.
* Design and build equipment to standard to allow installation at DOE National facilities, ensuring compliance with DOE's highly complex standards. Aided by GENESIS PIs close relationships with staff at the major US facilities hosting in situ apparatus (APS, NSLS-II and SNS), coordinate with stakeholders and suppliers of components.
* Observe, collect and analyze data; write summary reports as necessary.
* Interact with computational groups to select targets and attach provenance to correlate reaction variables to pathways.
* Assist in preparation of technical manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
* Participate in EFRC meetings and provide reports and presentations on research progress according to EFRC guideline.
* Assist in grant writing.
* Supervisory responsibilities:
* May coordinate field and laboratory work and/or develop and maintain databases.
* Incumbents may be responsible for orienting others to the project/program and checking work of less experienced employees as assigned.
* Mentor students in synthesis/in situ scattering.
* Advise junior research staff on technical matters.
* Train others at both SBU and BNL on proper operation of apparatus.
* Other duties or projects as assigned. Setup equipment and order supplies as needed.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
