The Department of Physical Sciences at Concord University is accepting applications for an open position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-level courses in biochemistry and any other field of chemistry that complements existing strengths in organic chemistry.
The Department values and supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. The chemistry program supports majors in chemistry (including a biochemistry option and a geochemistry option), biology, health sciences, science education, and environmental geosciences.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
Candidates will teach a 12 contact-hour load/semester. Tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in scholarship that enhances their teaching and to develop a modest undergraduate research program; all faculty assume an active role in formal and informal student advising and participate in departmental activities and University governance including programmatic assessment efforts. Candidates will participate in routine upkeep and maintenance of laboratory facilities and engage in safe and ethical laboratory practices as a role model to students.
Concord University is a liberal arts institution located in a scenic area of the southern West Virginia Appalachians with access to year-round outdoor recreational activities. The department operates and maintains a wide range of analytical instrumentation and related facilities including an electron microprobe (EPMA), micro-XRF, HPLC, SCF extractor, microplate reader, GC, GC-MS, fluorimeter, ICP-ES, Raman, IR, UV-Vis, FT-IR, potentiostat/galvanostat, AFM, polarizing microscopes, thin section/materials prep laboratory, plasma sputter and vacuum carbon coaters, vacuum spin coater, and a benchtop NMR
