Job Description

The Workforce Development team is looking for a graduate intern to support
their university educational initiatives including student competitions and
laboratory-wide contingent worker education programs. The primary function
will be in support of the Join the discussion, Unveil innovation, Make
connections, Promote tech-to-market (JUMP) into STEM university student
building science competition and additional workforce development programs
in the building sciences. Additional initiatives include support for
programs like the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy
Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) Robotics Internship Program, the
Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership Program (MEISPP),
Colorado-Wyoming Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CO-WY
AMP), and others.

The JUMP into STEM initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of
building scientists, focusing on creative ideation and diversity in the
building science field. The diversity objective is inclusive of an
interdisciplinary mix of majors and representation by women and minorities.
JUMP into STEM, in its 3rd year, offers building science-related challenges
that university professors can integrate into their curriculum.

For JUMP into STEM, the intern will work with NREL management, Oak Ridge
National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Building
Technologies Office to design and launch the 2020-2021 competition. The
intern will support the development of challenges by working with NREL and
ORNL researchers, a team of professors, and an advisory board. The intern
will support the implementation of the competition through developing rules,
evaluation processes, and timelines. The intern will recruit college and
university professors to be a part of the professor team and to implement
the challenge at different schools.

The intern will support the NREL Intern Program Manager by managing
logistics, providing professional development, and being a go-to resource
for contingent worker education program questions.

The intern will be heavily involved with educational opportunities, so must
have professional experience working with students, a background in a
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-related (STEM-related), and a
passion for education.

Basic Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or
graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship
period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative
grade point average.

Additional Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience working with students either through K-12 teaching,
university teaching, other outreach programs, or mentoring programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, physics, astronomy,
atmospheric science, chemistry, biology, economics, math, technology,
sociology, anthropology or equivalent relevant experience.
