EPA is recruiting for a full-time, permanent Exposure Scientist in Research Triangle Park, NC.
The Integrated Health Assessment Branch (IHAB) within the Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment (CPHEA) at EPA, is responsible for developing Integrated Science Assessments (ISAs) for the 6 criteria air pollutants identified in the Clean Air Act. The ISAs provide the scientific basis for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
The branch includes a diverse group of scientists, including experts in dosimetry, animal toxicology, and epidemiology. This position offers a unique opportunity for a qualified exposure scientist to collaborate as part of a high-functioning, interdisciplinary team on projects with vast public health impact.

Responsibilities

You will:
- Interpret, evaluate, and analyze scientific data and other information for the development of human health and environmental assessments of human exposure to air pollutants;

- Communicate analyses, research results, and technical advice and maintain professional contacts essential to the assessment process;

- Provide technical expertise, assistance and advice to support assessment efforts;

- Identify, plan and implement research to develop and/or improve methods used in assessments.


Requirements Conditions Of Employment
o You must be a U.S. citizen.
o If you are selected, a pre-employment background check is required.

o You may be required to travel less than 25% of each month.


This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation.  Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

If you are selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.


Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as participating in team research toward developing and/or analyzing scientific studies related to human exposure assessment of air pollutants and communicating results to others.

To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as independently developing and/or analyzing scientific studies related to human exposure assessment of air pollutants; providing technical expertise or advice to others; and communicating research results in peer-reviewed publications.
