General Summary
Gas Technology Institute (GTI), the nation's leading research, development, deployment and training organization serving energy markets, has an opportunity for an experienced scientist or engineer in our Energy Delivery research group. The qualified candidate will act as a project manager and will lead efforts focused in the Risk, Integrity and Environmental business unit.
This unit performs research, development, and demonstrations focused on technology and information aimed at greenhouse gas emission quantification, mitigation, environmental impacts, infrastructure integrity, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, procedural review, renewable natural gas, technology validation and integration.
Primary Responsibilities
* Detailed programmatic and project management to include overseeing contractual adjustments and compliance, budget management, project scoping, customer interactions, presenting, and report writing.
* Ability to manage and communicate complex technical and applied research. Strong experience and technical background in core research areas is essential.
* Collaborates with researchers on all aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, equipment, and human resource requirements.
* Facilitates collaborations with academia, government, and corporations, including coordination with intellectual property legal personnel and technology licensing personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including writing and delivering technical proposals, reports, and presentations
* Demonstrated ability to build consensus across diverse research teams and clients
* Experience managing highly technical projects and multi-sponsor programs effectively and efficiently with ability to meet project milestones and keep internal/external project teams on track
* Ability to lead/manage large-scale, multi-year RD&D initiatives supporting technology and information development
* Adept at predicting project outcomes and re-scoping if necessary
* Demonstrated ability to deliver polished products with high customer satisfaction
* Strong background in greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, or environmental impacts.
* Knowledge of natural gas delivery systems, biogas renewable energy systems, risk management, and associated industry R&D needs including programmatic support for utilities and government agencies is desired.
* Knowledgeable of natural gas industry regulations, safety procedures, operating best practices, and related codes & standards
* An ability to provide timely, professional results with little or no supervision
* Work with current and prospective clients to understand their needs, and identify new technical and/or business areas of activity
* Potential for travel for industry events, customer site visits, field demonstrations or testing.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Science; 10 or more years in related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Prior work experience in the natural gas/energy industry operations is desired
* Experimental and field research experience is a plus
* Experience with program/project management and multi-discipline collaborative experience preferred
