The Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center<https://www.usgs.gov/centers/gggsc> (GGGSC or G3) is pleased to announce that we are recruiting for an LA-ICP-MS Chemist as a GS-12 or GS-13 (based on experience) in Denver, CO.  This vacancy is open to all qualified U.S. citizens and closes on June 16, 2020.  Responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):


  *   Conduct trace element analyses using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS).
  *   Apply appropriate analytical methods to analyze geological, environmental, and biological samples.
  *   Develop and apply analytical methods to address non-routine samples.
  *   Manage the operation and maintenance of LA-ICP-MS instruments and associated facilities.
  *   Oversee quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) for the LA-ICP-MS laboratory. Ensure that QA/QC procedures and documentation meet or exceed center, mission area, and bureau quality data management systems standards.
  *   Perform training and oversight of laboratory users in established laboratory techniques.
  *   Manage the workflow of the LA-ICP-MS laboratory.
  *   Compile scientific data and information which result from laboratory investigations.
  *   Perform and oversee data evaluation and reduction to a form suitable for publication and database archiving.
  *   Participate in writing interpretive reports and articles based on geological and geochemical data for professional review.
  *   Communicate with national and international peers through participation in scientific conferences and training opportunities.
