*500 WOMEN SCIENTISTS REQUEST A WOMAN IN STEMM PROGRAM
COMMUNICATIONS/OUTREACH ASSOCIATE*

*WHO WE ARE:*
500 Women Scientists was founded in the fall of 2016 with a mission to
serve society by making science open, inclusive, and accessible. The
organization is a non-profit and is led by an inclusive and diverse
volunteer leadership team and advisory board, working to embody our
organizational mission.

*THE OPPORTUNITY:*
500 Women Scientists is seeking a part-time contractor (10-15 hours per
week) to support the Request a Woman in STEMM project’s communications
work. The contractor will bring the Request brand to life and lead outreach
efforts for the Request platform. You will be responsible for driving the
Request public communications channels and working strategically with
members of the team to target and communicate compelling messages to our
key audiences. The overall goal of this position is to grow the Request a
Woman in STEMM database, which currently has over 13,000 members, ensuring
that the database is both global and reflective of our core values of
justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI).

*MAJOR ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:*
A successful candidate for this position will be a creative, social
justice-oriented leader with experience developing and implementing
programs and working closely with a diverse and geographically distributed
team. A successful candidate will be expected to:

   - Work alongside 500 Women Scientists Request Managing Director + team
   to set communications strategy, vision, and goals.
   - Assist with development of marketing strategy and brand
   implementation, including:
   - Leverage our revised brand messaging to execute a strategy for
   Request’s social media platforms
   - Manage the Request Twitter account
   - Create and maintain content for Request platform
   - Increase Request platform engagement
   - Create a consistent content calendar and draft content for blog posts,
   Twitter, op-eds, and other written collateral, adapting tone and style to
   meet the needs and interests of various audiences.
   - Track key metrics for online channels and use that information to
   optimize communications performance.
   - Assist the Request a Woman in STEMM leadership team with logistics and
   manage team meeting minutes.
   - Coordinate platform updates, working closely with the contracted
   development team.
   - Develop and maintain resources and identify new avenues for expanding
   the platform’s scope.
   - Assist in development of program assessment to inform programming
   activities.
   - Coordinate media engagement.
   - Ensure the database is up to date and work with volunteers to vet
   entries.
   - Provide fundraising support (e.g., send inquiries to potential donors
   or grant programs, put together applications, support grant writing).
   - Develop relationships and network with key community partners and
   allies.

*EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):*
Bachelor's degree in any discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience or
combination of education, training, and relevant experience in marketing,
and coordination or management. Prior experience performing work related to
diversity, equity, and inclusion is required.

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):*
Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and remotely with a diverse team.
Knowledge of 501(c)3 organizations or similar experience.
Small and large scale fundraising experience.
Knowledge of grants and project management software.

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*
Perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently use a telephone or video conference platforms for meetings.
Ability to present information/communicate with others.

*DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
Strong background in social media, marketing, and brand implementation.
Strong interest or educational background in STEMM environments,
educational programs, professional development activities, program
evaluation, and/or diversity and inclusion.
Experience compiling, analyzing, and reporting data, including experience
in program assessment.
Ability to exercise good judgment under pressure.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft programs, Google GSuite, and Slack.
Prior experience with presenting information to others and training
participants.

Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with 500 Women
Scientists leadership team and advisory board and with external partner
organizations. Works with a diverse community of constituents recognizing
structural barriers.

Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal
responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and
promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
