Environmental Technical Writer

Parsons is at the forefront of innovative change in the fields of
engineering, environmental remediation, environmental sciences and
geosciences, project and construction management. We are actively looking
for a candidate with experience in the environmental fields that can assist
project teams and aid as a technical writer to develop and manage
environmental documents for environmental remediation projects throughout
the Northeast.  We have on-going projects with oil and gas, energy, and
chemical manufacturing companies conducting many phases of environmental
remediation.

The candidate, with minimal supervision, will perform fundamental writing
and editing tasks required in the preparation of proposals, presentations,
reports, technical papers, SharePoint sites, and other materials, as
required for environmental remediation. The incumbent must exercise good
interpersonal, organizational and technical skills while becoming familiar
with required formats and standards, spending a significant amount of
analyzing and writing environmental technical studies, correspondences, and
reports regarding environmental analyses. This position requires strong
documents management skills and the ability to prepare presentations, ad-hoc
reports, scopes, and proposals, as necessary. You will balance your time
working on specific technical documents (i.e. Operations and Maintenance
Manuals, SWPPP, Groundwater Monitoring Plans), as well as general
documentation. You will be responsible for the technical excellence of the
tasks and analyses performed, regulatory compliance, and for on-schedule
completion within or below budget in accordance with contractual
obligations.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

.        Produces high quality technical reports and results to meet client
expectations, applicable standards, and are appropriate for their intended
audience.  May review and assist in completing technical reports and
documents prepared by others.

.        Reviews work produced by those assigned to ensure that all
applicable policies, procedures, and regulations are followed, that current
techniques are utilized, and that quality is acceptable. 

.        Maintains a basic understanding of environmental field programs
(i.e sampling)

.        Proofreads and performs routine editorial functions, including
formatting and stylesheet verification, copy editing, and some production
planning.

.        Ensures compliance of all assigned documents with their required
presentation, correct use of paragraph headings and numbering, referencing
of illustrative and tabular matter, and applicable bibliographic styles.

.        Ensures consistency in application of technical abbreviations and
acronyms, figure and table callouts and captions, and handling of
boilerplate materials.

.        Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to
set standards regarding order, clarity, style, brevity, and terminology.
Ensuring report fields flow in the correct sequence.

.        Maintains records and files of work and revisions

.        Edits and standardizes material prepared by other writers or
personnel, as needed

.        Works collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and management
to ensure that end product meets customer needs

.        Works directly with technical staff or authors/requestors to review
and write assigned documents. Recommends improvements for accuracy of
expression, project or company style, clarity, consistency, and grammatical
construction.

.        Serves as part of a functional team or works independently to
complete assignments according to scheduled deadlines.

.        Organizes data and prepares detailed spreadsheets for incorporation
into the environmental document.

.        Communicates with project team to ensure Client deadlines met.

.        Good written and oral communication, organizational, and
interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work as a member
of a team,

Qualifications

.        4-year degree in environmental sciences or related field
(environmental studies, geosciences, engineering)

.        3-7 years of related work experience, including proofreading and
editing technical engineering publications, specifications, and proposals
from rough draft through print-ready.

.        Requires a demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral
communication skills

.        Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public

.        Self-disciplined and self-motivated

.        Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

.        Proficiency in adobe Acrobat

.        Accuracy, attention to detail, consistency, and clarity in
conformance with required formats and standards.

.        A familiarity with environmental rules and regulations.
