Where You Will Work:

The Division of Environmental Science and Engineering (DESE) at POSTECH was established in 1995 under the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Korea. It was also designated as a Graduate School of Excellence in environmental engineering by the Ministry of Education. The DESE encourages the pioneering efforts of the faculty members, research scientists, and students and the interdisciplinary research activities beyond the scope of the traditional field of environmental research field. This position will be available in the Hydroclimatology Research Group (PI: Jonghun (Jon) Kam (email: jhkam at postech.ac.kr<mailto:jhkam at postech.ac.kr>).



What You Will Do:

The Postdoc Research Associate will be in charge of 1) developing a global flood and drought subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasting system and 2) assessing the predictability and prediction skill of multiple climate forecast models for drought. Responsibilities:

·         Develop and validate operational systems for computing and displaying multiple drought indices.

·         Regularly evaluate and monitor the performance of the drought forecasting system.

·         Write peer-review research articles and present documentation material in international conferences and workshops.



What You Need:

Education and Years of Experience:

A PhD degree in climatology, hydrology, or relevant fields



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Excellent scientific programming (NCL and Python) and numerical modeling (WRF) skills.

·         Comprehensive knowledge of hydroclimatological phenomena.

·         The ability to work collaboratively as a research team member.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·         Time management skills (e.g., planning and organizing projects).

·         Understanding of the methods and procedures for conducting scientific research.



Work Period:

This position will be started in April 1, 2020 or earlier. The contract of this position is for one year and can be extended for another year based on the first year’s performance.



Salary:

The annual salary ranges from US$ 36k to 60k plus benefits (e.g., health insurance and relocation fee). The salary will be finalized depending on the applicant’s skill and professional experience.
