YOUR POSITION WITH TNC


The Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Postdoctoral Researcher compiles, synthesizes, and generates data to track and project the adoption and climate mitigation benefits of NCS for each country, globally. It is anticipated that this will include forming data sharing collaborations, synthesis of the literature, and analysis of existing GIS and remote sensing data. The work will focus primarily on the agricultural and forestry sectors. This effort will build upon previous Positive Disruption reports, in collaboration with the Epic Institute, which seeks to promote the adoption of comprehensive solutions to climate change. The position will collaborate on reports and peer reviewed publications on the global adoption of NCS and other climate solutions. We currently have funding for this position for two years. It is anticipated that this position will end after two years, with an extension possible based on needs and funding availability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


The Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) Postdoctoral Researcher collects, synthesizes, manages, and analyzes data related to the protection, restoration, and improved management of forests, croplands, grasslands, and wetlands. The NCS Postdoctoral Researcher will help interpret and communicate the findings from these analyses for use in publications, presentations, and websites. Success in this role requires being savvy in a range of geospatial tools and analysis; working effectively independently and with others in a fast-paced, highly matrixed organization; and being responsive to shifting needs and priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE


  *   Identify data on the adoption of NCS and similar practices for use in estimating and projecting likely trajectories of NCS adoption.
  *   Manage spatial, tabular, and other data, develop new datasets as necessary, and ensure access to collaborators.
  *   Conduct geospatial and statistical analysis and provide rigorous interpretations of findings.
  *   Collaboratively draft and edit reports and publications based on the data collected and analyzed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  *   Master's Degree in science related field and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  *   Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data and preparing reports of findings.
  *   Experience in land use change, forestry, and/or agriculture.
  *   Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software (or other geospatial software) as related to responsibilities described above.
  *   Experience collaborating on scientific publications.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  *   Ability to answer research questions related to conservation strategies with creative and novel data sources and analysis methods.
  *   Experience initiating and managing successful scientific collaborations with a wide range of academic and non-academic collaborators.
  *   Experience coding with Python for large-scale GIS analyses.
  *   Experience coding in R or equivalent computing language.
  *   Ability to take initiative and drive results in an unstructured work environment.
  *   Attention to detail.
  *   Ability to meet deadlines.
  *   Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
