Postdoctoral or Graduate Position in Air Quality Modeling at U.S. EPA Research Triangle Park (Ben Murphy)
We are pleased to announce an open research position in the U.S. EPA Center for Environmental Measurement and Modeling (CEMM) focused on regional-scale modeling of wood-burning organic aerosol emissions. The position is mentored by Dr. Ben Murphy and coordinated with Drs. Havala Pye and Kathleen Fahey.

As part of this project, the research participant will have opportunities to further develop their skills in:

  * Chemical transport modeling of ambient particulate matter, particularly the development and application of the Community Multiscale Air Quality Model (CMAQ; https://www.epa.gov/cmaq)
  * Wood-combustion emissions and atmospheric organic chemistry, especially partitioning of primary organic aerosol and formation of secondary organic aerosol
  * Interpreting lab and field results to inform emissions models and chemical transport models
  * Effectively working both independently and within a diverse team of researchers

We seek candidates with experience or expertise running, developing and/or evaluating 3-D chemical transport models like CMAQ, and some basic or detailed knowledge of fire impacts on air quality is preferred. Linux programming skills, particularly experience compiling and modifying Fortran is highly valued.

This position is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, centered among the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Research Triangle is a nice place to be even during socially distanced lockdowns. Getting around in a car is really easy here after all.

Applications will be reviewed through September 30, 2020 with an expected start date in the fall. This opportunity is administered through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The appointment is funded for one year with possibility of renewal. Please see the description here: https://www.zintellect.com/Opportunity/Details/EPA-ORD-CEMM-AESMD-2020-06
