The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, New York, invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Atmospheric
Sciences.  The successful candidate will work on a NASA funded project that
aims to understand the interactions between the Arctic sea ice and the
atmosphere. The work will involve the use of NASA observational and
reanalysis products and the development and use of novel causal inference
methods to infer the causal relationships between moisture intrusion, Arctic
temperature, clouds and aerosols, surface radiative and turbulent fluxes,
and Arctic sea ice area and thickness on daily to weekly timescales. The
work will also investigate the representation of the sea ice and atmosphere
interactions in state-of-the-art climate models and design and perform
targeted model experiments to quantify and understand potential model
deficiencies in simulating the processes.

 

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will join the vibrant research community
at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory under the mentorship of Drs. Yutian
Wu, Mingfang Ting, Richard Seager, Marco Tedesco, Patrick Alexander at
Lamont and Clara Orbe, NASA GISS and Nathan Kurtz, NASA GSFC.

Candidates must have a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences or related field.
Research experience in atmospheric dynamics and/or remote sensing and/or
cryosphere and familiarity with causal inference methods and climate
modeling is strongly preferred.

 

Appointment will be for 1 year, with renewal for two more years pending
funding availability and progress.
