A Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position is available in the Applied
Interdisciplinary Research on Flow Systems (AIRFlowS
<https://www.airflows.cee.vt.edu/>) laboratory in the Department of Civil
and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. The position is for a PhD
student interested in investigating the release and transport of hazardous
pathogens in the atmosphere using fine-scale modeling (including LES) with
WRF, and is available as early as summer/fall 2020. This GRA position is
expected to be competitive as the Environmental Engineering and Civil
Engineering graduate programs at Virginia Tech are both highly ranked (7
and 9, respectively, in the 2020 U.S. News and World Report’s ranking) with
several graduate applicants each year.
Desired qualifications: Strong programming skills including Fortran, bash
scripting, and parallel computing; Background in atmospheric modeling and
familiarity with WRF (as evident from research projects or course work);
Background/interest in fluid mechanics and LES techniques; Strong
communication skills. Students with MS degree and previous research
experience are given priority in considerations.
If interested, send 1) a short paragraph summarizing background and
interest 2) CV and 3) transcript (All in one PDF file) to Dr. Hosein
