Physical Geographer with an Emphasis in Meteorology or Climate Dynamics

The Department of Geography and Geosciences at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2020. The ideal candidate would be a broadly trained physical geographer with a specialty in meteorology or atmospheric science. Specific consideration will be given to applicants whose research interests focus on large-scale climate dynamics or synoptic meteorology, but applicants with expertise in any atmospheric-related area are invited to apply. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate courses in meteorology, climatology, physical geography, geospatial analysis, or other related courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.

The successful candidate will play a major role within the department’s new track in Meteorology as well as contribute to the existing graduate and undergraduate programs that focus on environmental analysis, and human-environment interactions. In addition, candidates should have a demonstrable commitment to teaching and communication, but ideal candidates will possess research interests that intersect with topics being taught and include pursuit of extramural funding in support of Master’s Degree students. Candidates will possess a Ph.D. degree in geography, meteorology, or related field at time of appointment but ABD applicants will be considered.

The department aggressively pursues excellence in teaching and research within the context of the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Applied Geography. The successful applicant will join a vibrant research community with department specialties in environmental analysis, geospatial technologies, urban analysis and human and cultural dynamics. The department’s physical facilities are excellent and opportunities to work with a variety of community organizations and governmental agencies are plentiful. A record or potential for teaching, research funding, and publication is required for consideration. Good interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will work in the undergraduate and Master's programs in Applied Geography and contribute to a new degree track in Meteorology. Responsibilities include teaching, research and contributions to student growth, and service to the university and community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* University-level teaching experience.

* Ability to articulate research methodologies within the context of contemporary applied geography

* Ability to collaborate with other departments/disciplines in teaching and scholarly activities.

* Potential for collaboration with public, private and/or non-profit organizations.

* Competency in GIS, statistical analysis, and other spatial, analytical tools
