Assistant Professor of Environmental Science
Position: The Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences
(EEGS) at Northern Michigan University (NMU) invites applications for a
tenure-earning Assistant Professor of Environmental Science to begin in
August 2020. We seek an applied environmental scientist with teaching and
research experience that integrates natural science disciplines and
incorporates quantitative analysis to address global environmental
challenges. We welcome applicants with professional experiences suited to
teaching interdisciplinary courses who will contribute to existing
strengths in environmental science teaching and research in EEGS.
Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach courses
that complement the Department's curriculum, publish environmental science
focused research, and complete departmental, university and professional
service. This is a campus-based position.
Minimum Qualifications: Required minimum qualifications include a Ph.D.
granted by August 15, 2020, an active scholarly agenda, and a publication
record in Environmental Science, Geography, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated university teaching experience and a strong commitment to
provide excellent undergraduate instruction and advising.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Demonstrated ability to teach
courses such as Introduction to Environmental Science, Introduction to
Geographic Research, Quantitative Methods, Environmental Impact Assessment,
and an intermediate-level environmental science course related to the
candidate’s area of expertise that complements our Department’s curriculum.
Ability to produce applied environmental science scholarship, and an active
research agenda in applied environmental science disciplines such as
natural resource management, agricultural science, environmental hazards,
or environmental remediation.
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment and ability to
provide excellent undergraduate instruction and advising. Ability to secure
interdisciplinary grants, and experience with applied environmental science
research. Desire to work collaboratively to examine human–environment
interactions and to address contemporary sustainability challenges.
Experience integrating geographic information systems or remote sensing
