Position Summary

The Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of Memphis
invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor for the
2020-2021 Academic Year. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure track
academic appointment.

The strengths of the Department of City & Regional Planning include
interdisciplinary connections, an active engaged scholarship agenda built on
community partnerships, and international opportunities. Our department
offers a PAB-accredited Master of City and Regional Planning degree and is
currently pursuing the addition of interdisciplinary undergraduate and
doctoral programs. We are housed in the School of Urban Affairs and Public
Policy, which provides a hub for collaboration and diverse disciplinary
perspectives necessary for effective, comprehensive metropolitan action. The
department hosts the interdisciplinary UofM Design Collaborative and is
currently contributing to the development of the City of Memphis'
comprehensive plan. Our faculty members have active, funded research
partnerships with colleagues across campus, from Anthropology to Computer
Science. Our partnerships and community engagement efforts extend beyond our
borders through an annual two-week summer study abroad program in Sicily,
Italy.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in city and regional planning or a similar
field, with a record of teaching experience in studio and classroom
settings, and have a program of academic research.

The department is seeking an individual with strong training and experience
in environmental planning and design (including climate change, sustainable
design, and community resilience).

Candidates must also be able to teach general planning seminars from among
our core (e.g., Land Use Planning, Land Use Controls, Planning Theory,
Planning the American City, etc.) as well as applied planning studios.

In addition to these teaching responsibilities, the person hired will be
asked to contribute to the Graduate Program's ongoing student advising,
capstone supervision, and community outreach activities within his/her area
of expertise.

. Can combine technical expertise with the ability to contribute to
collaborative community-based planning,
. Have experience with community-university research partnerships
. Can work with interdisciplinary teams
. Can strengthen graphical and design skills of planning students
