Job Description
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) Seattle Research Center is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the coastal modeling team in Seattle Office to conduct macroalgae dynamics and trajectory modeling. Funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) MARINER program of U.S. Department of Energy. PNNL has developed a macroalgae growth model for floating macroalgal farm systems. Under the guidance of project PI, the selected candidate is expected to implement and test a free-floating macroalgae (sargassum) trajectory forecast system using advanced oceanographic forecast data (current, wave, nutrients and remote sensing) and the macroalgae growth model in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
The selected candidate should demonstrate 1) solid modeling experience with state-of-the-art coastal ocean and wave models, e.g. HYCOM, ROMS, WaveWatchIII; 2) strong problem-solving skills; 3) good scientific writing and communication skills; 4) strong scientific programing skills and knowledge of high performance computing; 5) knowledge of macroalgae dynamics and ocean operational forecast system is preferred.
Ph.D. in oceanography, geoscience, ocean engineering, civil and environmental engineering, atmospheric science or related fields.
3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
