Summary of Duties

The successful candidate will develop a research program in forest ecophysiology that generates publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, present research at disciplinary professional meetings, and develop an extramural funded research program that complements existing research in SoE. The successful candidate will contribute to programs of study in natural resource, environmental, and Earth sciences, by developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses involving plant ecology and related topics. In addition to classroom instruction, the successful candidate will mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students and contribute to the continued development of a Society of American Foresters-accredited program in forest ecology and management.

The School of the Environment (SoE) within the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track (assistant rank) position in Forest Ecophysiology, to begin August 16th, 2020 (or as negotiated) at the Pullman, Washington campus. We are particularly interested in candidates who work at sub-stand, stand, forest, and/or landscape levels, and who can contribute to SoE's interdisciplinary efforts and the continued development of our growing forest science program. Specific research areas could involve biotic (e.g., phenologic, symbiotic, evolutionary), hydrologic or hydraulic, and/or biogeochemical responses and feedbacks of forests to climate change, disease and other biotic or abiotic damage agents; and Earth system interactions, e.g., via carbon, nutrient, or geochemical cycles. Other novel research programs of forest-environment interactions will also be considered.

Required Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. at the time of hire in forest ecophysiology or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications

Record of research accomplishment as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding;

Commitment to enhancing equity and diversity as demonstrated by work with equity-promoting initiatives, student groups or organizations, or service activities;

Commitment to developing collegial and productive collaborations with colleagues within and across disciplines as demonstrated by co-authorship, co-teaching, or similar activities;

Experience in classroom teaching of students at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels, preferably including current pedagogical best-practices or innovation;

Potential for excellence in mentoring graduate and undergraduate research as demonstrated by experience with and success of previous mentees;

Record of collaboration with public, federal/state/county/city agency, private, resident, or other stakeholders;

Interest in programmatic development of a Society for American Foresters-accredited forestry program.
