Summary of Job Duties

The Post Doctoral Fellow will undertake elements of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Planning Assistance grant to the University of Arkansas Department of Geosciences and will use various geochemical, isotopic, and hydraulic techniques to collect and interpret data with the goal of improving understanding of the dynamics of various groundwater-component contributions to flood-stage streamflow. The Post Doctoral Fellow will also synthesize existing datasets and address other duties as assigned.

This is a one-year appointment, renewable based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.

*        Ph.D. in geosciences, engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of employment
*        Experience in the application of general geochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry, and physical hydrology tools to practical problems of hydrology
*        Demonstrated analytical skills using mathematics and programming languages (R, Python, Matlab)

Preferred Qualifications
*        Expertise in water-quality monitoring and discrete sampling techniques for groundwater and surface water
*        Expertise in applying hydrochemical and isotope data to hydrograph-separation analysis, water-source and mixing analysis, monitoring well/piezometer installation, groundwater monitoring, and sampling
*        Demonstrated ability to design, install, and maintain field hydrologic monitoring systems such as digital data-collection platforms and telemetry, water-level transducers, weather stations, autosamplers
*        Experience with complex analysis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
*        Knowledge of modeling and quantitative analysis using R, Python, or Matlab
*        Knowledge/expertise in statistics, physical and chemical hydrology, stable isotope geochemistry, and field hydrology
*        Ability to construct and test numerical models of physical and chemical processes in groundwater and surface-water systems
*        Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific results to laypersons and stakeholders, such as agricultural or urban planners
