    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN ANALYTICAL GEOCHEMISTRY


There is a vacancy for a permanent associate professor at the Department 
of Earth Science, University of Bergen, (www.uib.no 
<http://www.uib.no/>/geo/en) in analytical geochemistry linked to ICP-MS 
and MC-ICP-MS techniques.

**

*Work tasks/area of research/teaching: *

The position is intended for an active researcher in 
geochemistry/petrology with an interest in deep sea research. Preference 
will be given to candidates with good knowledge and experience in mass 
spectrometry techniques, including for example geochronology, isotope 
geochemistry or laser-ablation analyses. The successful candidate's 
research program will further develop the department's strengths in 
understanding deep-sea environments and processes. In addition to 
carrying out research, the candidate will be expected to contribute to 
teaching in the department, atboth undergraduate and masters levels with 
emphasis in mineralogy/petrography and analytical geochemistry, a well 
as supervise graduate students.

*Qualifications and personal qualities**:*

  *

    The applicant must have a doctoral degree within
    geochemistry/petrology or equivalent qualifications.

  *

    The applicant must be able to work independently and in a structured
    manner and have the ability to cooperate with others.

  *

    The applicant must have considerably experience with ICP-MS and/or
    MC-ICP-MS techniques.

  *

    Experience with other mass-spectrometric techniques such as TIMS is
    an advantage.

  *

    Basic pedagogical training is a requirement for the position. The
    successful applicant will be offered training if this requirement is
    not met prior to employment.

  *

    The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful
    applicant will be required to teach in Norwegian or another
    Scandinavian language within two years of being appointed.
