We are seeking qualified undergraduate or graduate students to
participate in a research project in Honduras. Successful applicants
will have the opportunity to apply relevant engineering and
environmental health skills to solving real-world problems. Travel,
lodging, and per diem will be provided.
The research project is examining exposures and health effects of indoor
biomass cookstoves in farming villages throughout Yamaranguila and
Intibucá in the southwestern region of Honduras, near the town of La
Esperanza. The current project is a longitudinal study, which started in
August 2015 and is expected to last 3 years. Approximately 250 women
with traditional stoves have been enrolled to explore their health and
indoor air pollution over time, comparing measures before and after an
improved stove intervention. We are working closely with community
leaders to ensure a community-engaged approach. This research is looking
for interested students to assist with data collection and management
for the field session in Honduras, with the possibility to continue
working on the project in the future. For more information, please see:
