_Research Assistant - Risk and Resilience (RISK) Program_
IIASA's Risk and Resilience (RISK) program is offering a position for a
Research Assistant to carry out applied research within its project on
Flood Resilience.
The successful candidate will support the ongoing work of the Flood
Resilience Alliance with a specific focus on measuring resilience and
applying innovative crowdsourcing tools for assessing vulnerability and
risk. Specific tasks include:
•Support with statistical analysis of an innovative approach for
measuring community-level resilience
•Further development and application of crowdsourcing tools for
assessing vulnerability and risk at community scales
•Contribute to the socioeconomic analysis and modelling of risks
(building on IIASA’s CATSIM model)
•Publish (single and co-authored papers) in relevant journals/books and
other media (e.g. press, internet)
•Present research results in international fora.
Applicants should have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in economics,
statistics, geography or other relevant field. There is potential for
integrating the research with PhD studies. It is highly desirable that
the applicant has an understanding of the literature regarding current
issues related to disaster risk management, climate change and
resilience. Knowledge of both quantitative (e.g. statistics, modeling,
GIS, risk analysis, stochastic simulation) and qualitative (e.g.
interview techniques) research methods is essential. Finally, strong
English language communication and writing skills are necessary, and
proficiency in other languages is welcome.
