equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering or in an engineering or
scientific discipline appropriate to their research focus. Potential for
excellence in research and teaching is essential. This position is
targeted to those working in research focused on the application of
informatics to climate, energy, air pollution, environmental systems and
related topics (e.g., energy systems design, sensor networks,
combinatorial design, cheminformatics, etc.).The successful candidate is
expected to develop an internationally recognized research program and
to contribute fully as a scholar through teaching of undergraduate and
graduate courses and through service to science and engineering.

For more than 100 years, The University of Iowa has been preparing

200 undergraduate and 35 graduate students, the Department of Chemical
and Biochemical Engineering is a thriving program with strong ties to
medical and environmental sciences. Interdisciplinary research is a
strength, with close interactions with chemical and health science
departments throughout the university. This position builds upon a new
Informatics Cluster hire described below coupled with strengths within
the department and college related to renewable energy, air quality,
environmental engineering, and environmental change.

"cluster hire" of 20 new interdisciplinary faculty members to advance
informatics education, training, research. The candidate will join a
growing cluster of faculty working on applied issues in informatics and
big data, supplementing existing faculty and recent additions to the
cluster working in both fundamental and applied informatics. The
candidates are expected to develop independent research programs, become
part of the anticipated Institute of Informatics
(http://informatics.uiowa.edu/), and collaborate closely with one or
more additional centers or research institutes at the University of Iowa
(e.g. IIHR Hydroscience and Engineering http://www.iihr.uiowa.edu/,
Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research
http://cgrer.uiowa.edu/). Participation in the Informatics Cluster will
be an important component in performance evaluations.

The target starting date for this position is August 2015. The search
