Vaisala serves renewable energy customers who operate in wind and solar energy fields globally as a developer, operator or consultant. Vaisala’s offering for these customers includes services and products ranging from wind and solar resource assessment services and equipment for measurement campaigns to comprehensive bankable analysis reports and operative wind and solar farm energy production forecasting services.
We are now strengthening our position in the Energy business and are looking for a
Renewable Energy Assessment Engineer
to work as a part of Vaisala’s global energy assessment team to provide consulting, assessment reports, and support through the client’s project development, certification, and financing processes.
Responsibilities:
Your main responsibility is to build Vaisala’s presence in Brazil for renewable energy assessment (wind and solar) analysis and certification. You will support the local sales team to improve customers’ understanding of our state-of-the-art assessment approach. This position is specifically responsible for technical support to our sales team in Brazil, acts as the main interface to assessment production activities in the United States, and certifies assessment reports according to Brazil CREA engineering standards. You are the key promoter and influencer for Vaisala’s assessment business in Brazil with renewable energy developers, financiers, EPE (Empresa de Pesquisa Energética) and BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank).
You will work in close cooperation with the colleagues in the market segment to customize the assessment product offering and market strategy for Brazil. The ideal candidate is a meteorologist or engineer with a strong interest in renewable energy that can act independently and efficiently to provide a high-level of service to our customers and internal stakeholders.
This position reports to the Production Manager, Assessment with a dotted line to the Energy Regional Segment Manager, Americas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in production of wind and solar energy assessment reports
Quality control of observational data received in support of assessment projects (including site visits)
Ensure the technical accuracy and timely delivery of resource assessment services
Participate in the development of advanced solutions to maintain state-of-the-art methods
Produce technical documentation
Provide technical support for the sales team
Present assessment reports to clients
Act as primary technical liaison for Vaisala with key influencers in Brazil renewable energy development
Requirements and Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, engineering, or other applied science. M.S. or higher is preferred
Brazil CREA (Conselho Regional de Engenharia, Arquitetura E Agronomia) registration
2+ years of experience performing traditional wind and/or solar energy assessments for utility and commercial scale projects, including demonstrated experience with standard software tools used in the industry such as Windographer, WindFarmer, SAM and PVSyst.
Expert at quality control of wind and solar measurement data
Experience with meteorological instrumentation including field site visits to evaluate measurement campaigns
Familiarity designing meteorological campaigns for wind and/or solar projects
Ability to work semi-independently in a team-oriented atmosphere where close and effective coordination with other professionals is essential for success
Willingness to travel
Willingness to work flexible hours to communicate with the assessment production team in the United States as needed
Excellent oral and written presentation skills
Fluent English and Portuguese, Spanish expertise also beneficial
