Greetings SMART Scholars,


The SMART Program Office and the Laboratories and Personnel Office under the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)), is pleased to announce the SMART Scholar Seed Grant (SEED) call for proposals. The SEED program competitively awards research grants up to $100K per year for up to a maximum of three years to help support promising SMART Scholars establish a foundational research / engineering effort in their area of expertise as they transition from the pursuit of their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to an active Department of Defense (DoD) professional.


Attached is the call for proposals and the proposal template. The award timeline is included below. Technical and administrative correspondence regarding this opportunity should be sent to osd.smart at mail.mil<mailto:osd.smart at mail.mil> with the subject line: SMART SEED grant inquiry - <Last Name>.  Completed proposals should be sent to the same address with the subject line: SMART SEED grant final proposal - <Last Name>.  Please use a .mil email address for all inquiries and proposal submissions.

Prospective PIs and Mentors are encouraged to join our "proposer's day" webinar on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the SEED Program and participate in a Q&A with program management.
