Applications are invited for a Research Scientist position in the fields of
ionospheric physics and space weather. Applicants should hold a PhD in
space physics or a related field and a track record of publications in peer
reviewed journals.

The successful candidate will conduct research relevant to understanding
the near-earth space environment and its impacts on radio frequency (RF)
systems. Experimental and/or modeling experience is preferred. Desired
skills include the ability to develop, test and deploy RF sensors operating
in passive and active modes, system prototyping to include algorithm
development and real-time system operation, and tools for analysis of the
collected data requiring familiarity with digital signal processing
techniques such as optimization, filtering, and image processing.
Familiarity with machine learning/data science techniques is also valuable.

The candidate will have proficiency in analysis of ground-based and
space-based ionospheric instrument measurements together with scientific
programming and visualization experience in computer languages such as
MATLAB, IDL, Python, Fortran and C/C++. Candidates with prior research
experience modeling high-frequency (HF) propagation, ionospheric
irregularities, and scintillation are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants at the Research Scientist and/or Senior Research Scientist level
will be considered. Salary will be commensurate with experience and
responsibilities.

The selected candidate will work in a successful research group at the
Institute for Scientific Research at Boston College in Newton,
Massachusetts. US citizenship is preferred. Please send a CV together
with contact information for two references to Patricia Doherty at Boston
College (Patricia.Doherty at bc.edu) by April 16, 2020.

Boston College is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
