Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce two invited speakers for AGU session SA012:

Dr. Erich Becker: “Multi-step vertical coupling from the troposphere to the thermosphere during wintertime”
Dr. Toshi Nishimura: “M-I-T responses to an extreme substorm during a storm in solar minimum”

We invite you to submit abstracts to this session from new observational, modeling, and theoretical studies of the neutral-dynamical, electrodynamical, and chemical processes that are crucial to the 3-dimensional coupling within the geospace-atmosphere system.

Session Title:
SA012 - Neutral-dynamical, Electrodynamical, and Chemical Processes in the Vertical and Horizontal Coupling within the Earth’s Atmosphere and Space

Session Description:
This session solicits new observational, modeling, and theoretical studies for understanding the fundamental processes of neutral dynamics, electrodynamics, chemistry, and transport that are crucial to the vertical and horizontal coupling within the geospace-atmosphere system. Science topics include but are not limited to 1) multi-step vertical wave coupling mechanisms and their impacts on the general circulation, thermal structures, and constituents, 2) horizontal coupling among the tropical, mid-latitude, and polar regions and their impacts on the long- and short-term variability, 3) the atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling and impacts on compositions and thermodynamics, 4) the responses of mesosphere-thermosphere-ionosphere system to geomagnetic and solar activities, and 5) the transport of global cosmic dust and minor species and wave-induced fluxes. This session aims to bridge the neutral atmosphere research with the ionosphere and magnetosphere research, and stimulate new science collaborations among experimentalists, theoreticians, and modelers, seeking new science paths.
