To continue the momentum from the CEDAR 2019 Active Experiments Workshop, we will convene a session at the AGU 2019 Fall Meeting as well. We welcome your participation.
Session: SA011
Session ID: 83120
Session Title: NEW TECHNIQUES FOR ACTIVE EXPERIMENTS
Section: SPA-Aeronomy

Session description: Understanding the dynamics of plasma interactions in the ionosphere has proven to be particularly challenging. Experiments that artificially modify the ionosphere have been conducted in recent years in an effort to understand the formation and evolution of plasma irregularities. Ionospheric modification experiments use high-power HF radio waves, chemical releases from sounding rockets, or particle beams emitted from satellites to induce upper atmospheric phenomena that are observed only sporadically in the natural undisturbed ionosphere, if at all. High-power HF radio waves incident on the ionosphere generate artificial aurora or airglow, form HF-enhanced plasma and ion lines observed with radar, induce scintillations, or create plasma density irregularities that affect radio propagation. Chemical releases can induce scintillation and airglow, as well as create artificial plasma layers in the ionosphere. This session will present recent results and explore new techniques for future experiments and campaigns to advance the state of the art.
Abstract submission is open now and continues until 31 July 2019.
